Shiloh Shepherds Breed Info

Shiloh Shepherds are very similar to the German Shepherd, but they are larger and heavier, have a calmer, softer, more easy going temperament. Shiloh Shepherds portray a distinct impression of nobility with a superior intelligence that reflects a regal wisdom and strength of character. Powerfully built with unsurpassed beauty and elegance this gentle giant with intelligence wrapped in a heart of gold, faithfully protects his home and those he loves. Shilohs are loyal and protective. They are very gentle with other animals and children.

German Shepherds date back to as early as the 7th Century. Shepherds roots are in the mountain sheepdog of Germany. The Shiloh Shepherd breed was developed to restore the German Shepherd breed to its former glory. The goal is to create shepherds with superior intelligence, good temperament, and sound hips.

Shilohs can range from 70lbs to 140lbs. They vary in height from 26 to 30 inches on the average. Shilohs have two types of coats: Plush (long) and Smooth (short). The Plush coat has medium coarse guard hairs and a soft undercoat. The Smooth coat is straight, lying close to the body with a soft undercoat.

Shilohs can have a variety of colors combinations including solid black or white, shades of golden tan, reddish tan, silver, and cream as well as various shades of golden, silver, red, dark brown, dark gray, or black sables. Please see the ISSDC website for detailed coloration and coat information.

Shilohs are extremely intelligent and easy to train. Positive re-enforcement is the best method of training. They are one of the most capable and eager to learn, work and excel to the highest levels. Please see the ISSDC website for more information on "working" Shilohs.
